Things to do around Exmoor

Cycling

Exmoor is the perfect place to come for a cycling holiday, with its quiet country roads, hundreds of bridlepaths and RUPPS (roads used as public paths). There is also the Tarka Trail, ideal for cyclists, a disused railway track that runs for many miles.

Horse Riding

The village of Exford is right in the heart of the Exmoor National Park that has hundreds of miles of bridlepaths and with its marvellous scenery, riding over the moors would be difficult to beat.

The Exford Bridge Restaurant is the perfect place as a base for a riding holiday, with our large car park you can park your horse trailor or lorry safely, and you can keep your horse at The White Horse Stables, which are less than 100 yards away from us. They do full livery or DIY and for more information please contact Jeanette Branton on 01643 831591.

If you can’t bring your own horse, you will find many riding stables on Exmoor that can cater for your needs, whether you’ve never ridden before or have loads of experience, you can hire a horse that suits you for an hour, a day or a week!

For any further information please do not hesitate to contact us.

Fishing

Exmoor offers both sea and fresh water fishing. Most of the fresh water fishing is game fishing for wild trout and salmon. As with most things on Exmoor the fishing is uncrowded and invariably with beautiful scenery surrounding you. For more information visit: www.hartflyfishing.demon.co.uk

Walking

The walking on Exmoor is unrivalled in its beauty and diversity. Costal paths, river walks, miles of moorland and wonderful hidden valleys and all of them changing with the different seasons.

Four long distance paths cross Exmoor; The South West Coast Path, Two Moors Way, The MacMillan Way and the Tarka Trial.

Wildlife

Exmoor is home to our county's largest herds of Red Deer, these can be seen regularly over the moors either from your car or walking and riding.

Exmoor is a bird watchers paradise due to its diverse landscape. Many birds of prey can be spotted over the moors as well as kingfishers and dippers along the river banks. Others to be spotted are gold finches, stonechats, Dartford Warblers to name a few.

Many other wild animals can be spotted if you are lucky including otters, stoats and hedgehogs.

You could book a safari trip in a Land-Rover to see the best of the wildlife from next door at the Exmoor white Horse Hotel.
